Yes, Todoist has AI. Its current features can turn speech, text, images, and documents into tasks, suggest smaller steps, interpret forwarded emails, and help create filters. Todoist also connects to external AI assistants through its official MCP server, allowing those assistants to read and change tasks.
The important distinction is which feature you are using. Dictating tasks with Ramble, breaking down a task with Task Assist, and asking Claude to reorganize a project are different workflows, with different limits and setup requirements.
Features, prices, and official documentation checked October 14, 2026. This article describes documented capabilities; examples are illustrative rather than results from a hands-on test.
| Feature | What it helps with | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Ramble | Turning spoken thoughts into tasks | Designed for capture rather than an open-ended conversation |
| Task Capture Assist | Extracting tasks from text, images, and supported documents | File limits apply; generated tasks need review |
| Task Assist | Suggesting tasks, rewriting them, and generating subtasks | Requires setup; available on web and desktop |
| Email Assist | Turning forwarded emails into actionable tasks | Requires Pro or Business and must be enabled |
| Filter Assist | Creating a filter from a plain-language description | Currently supports English and Spanish |
| MCP connections | Letting a compatible external assistant read and manage Todoist data | Requires authorization and a supported assistant setup |
These features should be evaluated separately. Having access to one does not mean every AI workflow is available on your plan or device.
Ramble captures actionable tasks as you speak. It can interpret attributes such as dates, priorities, projects, and labels, and handle spoken corrections.
For example, you might say:
Remind me to send the revised estimate on Thursday. Also add a task to check the homepage copy tomorrow.
That is an illustrative capture request. Check the resulting names and dates before relying on them.
Todoist describes Ramble as a capture tool rather than a conversational assistant. Asking it to invent a complete strategy is a different job from dictating obligations you already know about.
Use it when typing is the obstacle: after a call, while collecting your thoughts, or when several small tasks come to mind at once.
Task Capture Assist works with text and files through Quick Add. It presents a preview you can edit before confirming the tasks.
Current documented limits include:
The feature is currently in beta.
An illustrative use is pasting meeting notes and adding an instruction to extract only your own responsibilities.
Review who owns each task and whether a date represents a suggestion or a commitment. A sentence mentioning Friday does not necessarily mean you agreed to deliver something by Friday.
Task Assist can suggest tasks for a goal, offer tips, rewrite a task into more actionable wording, and generate subtasks.
For example, “Prepare the client presentation” could become a starting point for asking for smaller steps. Review the suggestions against the actual brief: gathering results, choosing examples, drafting slides, and checking the final presentation may each need different amounts of work.
Task Assist requires Pro or Business and must be added through Todoist’s integrations settings. The documented extension works on web and desktop, including macOS, Windows, and Linux. It is not available in the iOS or Android apps.
Its value is helping you get started. A generated checklist still needs your judgment about scope, dependencies, and what “finished” means.
Email Assist interprets forwarded emails and turns their content into actionable tasks. It is available on Pro and Business and needs to be enabled in settings.
You then forward a message to the relevant project’s email address.
This suits messages containing a clear request: revise a proposal, provide a document, or follow up on a decision.
For long threads, check which request is current. An earlier deadline or superseded instruction can still appear in the text, so review the resulting task against the latest agreement.
Filter Assist helps generate Todoist filter queries from plain language. It is available on Beginner, Pro Legacy, Pro, and Business, and currently supports English and Spanish.
An illustrative request might describe a view containing overdue work and high-priority tasks scheduled for today.
This is useful when you know what you want to see but do not remember the query syntax. Check the resulting view against a few known tasks before treating it as your daily work list.
Todoist’s official MCP server lets a compatible assistant read tasks, create new ones, make changes, and reorganize projects after you authorize access.
Todoist provides setup guides for assistants including Claude and ChatGPT. Its developer documentation also describes daily reviews and project planning as use cases.
An illustrative request could be:
Look at my open tasks for this week. Suggest a more realistic order, but show me the proposed changes first.
The connection grants read and write access. You can revoke it under Todoist’s integrations settings. Confirmation behavior depends partly on the assistant you use.
This means it would be inaccurate to say Todoist AI cannot help plan a week or review tasks. Those workflows can be performed through a connected assistant. Evaluate the connection and the assistant’s behavior as part of the experience.
Some features are available without a paid subscription.
Beginner and Pro Legacy accounts receive 10 monthly sessions shared between Ramble and Task Capture Assist. Voice, text, image, and file captures draw from the same allowance.
Pro and Business include unlimited capture sessions within applicable fair-use or rate limits. Task Assist and Email Assist require those paid plans.
For example, six successful voice captures and four successful document captures would use the shared ten-session allowance. It is not ten sessions for each feature.
USD prices, before applicable tax:
| Subscription | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| Todoist Beginner | Free | Free |
| Todoist Pro | $7/month | $60/year, equivalent to $5/month |
| Todoist Business | $10 per user/month | $96 per user/year, equivalent to $8/month |
| SelfManager.ai Individual | $8/month | $72/year, equivalent to $6/month |
| SelfManager.ai Team | $30/month total | $300/year, equivalent to $25/month total |
Todoist’s listed AI features are included according to the subscription’s entitlements. A connected external assistant may have its own subscription or usage requirements. SelfManager includes an AI allowance, with optional additional credits, and unlimited collaborators on Team.
Ramble and Task Capture Assist do not support every attribute. Their current documentation lists subtasks and custom reminders among unsupported capture attributes. Task Assist can generate subtasks through its separate workflow.
Choose the feature that matches the job rather than assuming every input method produces the same result.
“Plan my week” leaves important questions unanswered.
Specify available hours, fixed appointments, deadlines, and which work matters most. Review whether the proposed workload fits the time you actually have.
A task list can look well organized while still containing more work than one person can complete.
Completing five tasks does not establish how many hours you worked or whether a client engagement was profitable.
If you want an assistant to analyze actual time, decisions, or blockers, those records need to be available to it. State what information it should use and ask it to flag missing evidence.
Todoist’s AI is useful for capture, task refinement, and working through connected assistants. If you already like its project-and-filter workflow, try those features against a repeated job before switching tools.
SelfManager.ai is worth considering when you want dated work, notes, comments, and task-level time tracking together, with built-in AI planning and reviews across a chosen period. Its AI Plan produces dated tables for review before approval, while AI Review uses recorded work to help explain progress. It runs in the browser and can be installed as a web app.
Choose based on the record you want to maintain and the questions you need answered. For SelfManager, the seven-day trial requires no credit card.
