SelfManager MCP server: connect Claude and other AI assistants

Ask your AI assistant to plan your day, add and complete tasks, or look back on a week. It works with your real tables, and you decide what it may do.

SelfManager connects through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard AI assistants use to work with other apps, so any app that supports it can connect. You only need this address:

https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp
  • Tested Claude
  • Testing next Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, LM Studio
  • Coming soon ChatGPT
Private beta. Right now only accounts we've invited can connect. Each connection needs an active SelfManager plan; the 7-day free trial counts. To join, write to marian@selfmanager.ai from the address you sign in with. After the beta, anyone with a plan can connect.

Connect it

The address is always the same:

https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp

Claude

Tested
  1. In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Settings → Connectors and select Add custom connector.
  2. Name it SelfManager and paste the address above.
  3. Select Connect. Claude opens SelfManager: sign in, choose what Claude may do, and select Allow.

Claude Code

Testing next

Run this in your terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code to sign in. It makes SelfManager available in all your projects:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user selfmanager https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp

Cursor, VS Code, LM Studio and other MCP apps

Testing next

Add the address as a remote (HTTP) MCP server, then sign in to SelfManager and allow it. We haven't tested these apps yet, but they use the same standard: if one doesn't connect, tell us. SelfManager can't verify these apps, so the approval page names where the access goes: continue only if you just started the connection yourself.

Your own tools and scripts

Personal API key

Make a personal API key in SelfManager, under My Profile → Connected apps, and send it to the address above as Authorization: Bearer <your key>. A key is shown once, lasts 30, 90 or 365 days, and can do only what you chose for it. Connected apps appears there once your account is in the beta.

What you can ask

Ask in your own words. For example:

  • "What's on my list today?"
  • "Create a table for tomorrow called Launch prep with: write changelog, record demo, email beta users."
  • "Mark record demo as done."
  • "Plan my next 3 months of workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday."
  • "How many tasks did I finish each week this quarter?"
  • "Move my Gym routine to Mondays and Thursdays, and add "stretch" to it."
  • "What did my last AI Review say?"
  • "Review my week and save it to my AI History."

Apps that show MCP prompts also offer SelfManager's ready-made ones (in Claude, in the + menu):

  • What's on today
  • Plan my week
  • Weekly review
  • Turn this into a routine
  • What can I ask?

How SelfManager is organised

Your work lives on days, and that changes how you ask.

Every day has its own tables.

A table is a list for one day, with its own tasks and progress. Nothing moves to the next day by itself: to carry unfinished tasks forward, ask your assistant to add them to tomorrow.

Routines are repeating tables.

A repeating table has a schedule (every day, weekdays, every Monday, monthly…) and each day it repeats on gets its own copy, so ticking today's routine leaves tomorrow's fresh. Your assistant can change a routine as the Repeats page does.

Tasks have progress, not just done or not done.

Besides completed, a task can be checked a little, done something or almost completed (25%, 50% and 75% toward the table's progress), looked over, or canceled. Priority runs from critical to optional.

Notes, comments and your journal are different places.

Notes are one document per table. Comments are the conversation with the people you share a table with. Your journal is one private line per day, your daily Self message.

Deadlines belong to tasks.

Your assistant reads them; setting them stays in the app.

AI History keeps your saved reviews.

It holds the AI Reviews and chats you saved. Your assistant can read them and save its own reviews there, marked with its name.

What it can and can't do

It can

  • Read your tables, tasks, notes, comments, deadlines, pinned and repeating tables, including tables shared with you, and your AI History.
  • Make changes, if you allow it: create tables, add tasks, comments and notes where only you can see them, edit tasks, mark them done, change repeating tables as the Repeats page does, and save a review or chat to your AI History.
  • Your journal (your daily Self message), when the assistant asks for it: read it, and add to it if it may make changes.
  • Tables other people can see, only if you tick that box: add tasks, comments and notes there. This is flagged for your assistant to ask you first, because everyone on that table will read it.

It can never

  • Delete a table, a task, a comment, or any text in your notes or journal. The one exception is a repeating table: changing one can replace the tasks and notes its new copies start with, and the tasks of copies made for coming days that nobody worked in. That change is flagged for your assistant to ask you first.
  • Create or delete a repeating table.
  • Share a table, invite someone, @mention anyone, or change who can see what.
  • Set a deadline, pin a table, change a table's settings (sharing, time tracking), or touch your images and recordings.
  • Run SelfManager's own AI, such as AI Plan or AI Review.
  • See any account but yours, or anything you can't see in the app.

The permissions you choose

When you connect, SelfManager shows what the assistant asks for, and you choose:

  • ReadAlways on.
  • Make changesTicked unless you untick it.
  • Also add tasks, comments and notes in tables other people can seeOff unless you tick it.
  • Your journal (your daily Self message)Included when the assistant asks for it.

To change them, remove SelfManager in your app and connect it again. If the old connection is still listed in My Profile → Connected apps, disconnect it there.

How you can tell what it did

  • Each change it makes to an existing table adds a line to that table's log, if the table keeps one (new tables do), ending in the app's name. Everyone on that table sees it. For example:

Row "record demo" status changed from not started to completed (via Claude)

  • A comment it writes shows "via" and the app's name next to your name, so the people you share with know.
  • With a personal API key, both say "via an AI assistant".
  • The Assistant activity page lists what your apps and keys changed in the last 30 days, also after you disconnect them. My Profile → Connected apps lists what is connected, and when each was last used.
  • SelfManager sends you a notice whenever a new app connects or a key is made.

Disconnect it

In SelfManager, open My Profile → Connected apps and choose Disconnect (or Revoke for a key). It stops working within about a minute. Removing SelfManager in your app stops that app using it; disconnecting in SelfManager ends it on our side too. What it changed stays on the Assistant activity page for 30 days.

AI credits

Requests use your SelfManager AI credits, the same ones SelfManager's own AI uses, at one price for every assistant and app:

0 credits

Reading a day, a table or a list, ticking or editing tasks, and editing a repeating table.

1 AI credit a request

Reading several days or totals, searching, and adding tables, tasks, comments, notes, journal lines or a conversation saved to AI History. A long range is read a page at a time, each page one request; up to 1,000 tables can be made in one.

Weekly credits reset on Monday (UTC), and each charged request shows on your AI Usage page with the app's name.

Privacy

While it stays connected, the assistant gets only the SelfManager data it asks for on your behalf. On a shared table, that includes what other members wrote and their names. Its provider, such as Anthropic for Claude, handles that data under its own terms. We never see your conversation with the assistant.

For 30 days we keep a list of what each app changed, for your Assistant activity page: which table (by its name) or day, and when, never the text it wrote. It stays for its 30 days even after you disconnect the app. So that a request sent twice is applied once, we keep each change's answer for a day.

If something doesn't work

"Couldn't register with SelfManager.ai's sign-in service"
Our sign-in servers rest when nobody has used them for a while, and the first try wakes them. Wait about ten seconds and select Connect again.
"…in a private beta that doesn't include this account yet"
Your account isn't in the beta yet. It opens to everyone with a plan after the beta.
"Your SelfManager plan isn't active…"
Start or renew a plan in SelfManager. The 7-day free trial counts.
"For your safety, sign in again to connect an app."
Approving needs a sign-in within the last 10 minutes. Sign out, sign back in, and connect again.
"Verify your email address first."
Accounts made with an email and a password confirm their address once, from the email we sent.
"SelfManager couldn't verify this app"
Expected for apps other than Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT. Continue only if you started the connection yourself.
It doesn't connect at all
Check the address: it starts with api., https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp.
Your app asks you to connect again
A connection ends after 60 days without use, after "sign out everywhere", or after a password change. Connect again.
"Too many requests in a minute."
The limit is 60 requests a minute, 10 of them searches and 10 that make or change many tables. Wait a moment and try again.
It won't delete, share or set a deadline
That is by design. Do these in SelfManager.

The tools

What the assistant can call. Reading tools only read. Those marked asks first are flagged for your assistant to check with you before it runs them: Claude does, unless you've set it to always allow them; other apps decide for themselves.

  • add_tasks Adds tasks to a table only you can see.
  • open_day Makes a day's repeating tables, as opening that day in SelfManager does, so their tasks can be ticked.
  • complete_task Marks a task done, as ticking it does: its time and the table's log.
  • reopen_task Marks a done task as not started. This deletes the time recorded for it. asks first
  • update_task Changes a task's priority or progress, or renames it in a table only you can see. asks first
  • add_comment Adds a comment, in your name, to a table only you can see.
  • append_table_notes Adds text at the end of the notes of a table only you can see.
  • append_journal Adds text to a day's journal line (your daily Self message).
  • write_shared_table Adds tasks, a comment or notes text in a table other people can see (only if you allow it). asks first
  • update_repeating_table Changes a repeating table as the Repeats page does: what new copies start with, the schedule, the end date, or pause and resume. Tables already made change only if you ask, and only those nobody worked in. It never deletes a repeat. asks first
  • save_to_ai_history Saves a review or chat you had with it to your AI History when you ask, marked with its name. It never edits or deletes one.
